The Gaze.

The mother's eyes are the refuge where children confirm their existence.the mother's eyes, especially, are a child's refuge, the mirror where children confirm their existence. From the doting reflection of its mother's eyes, a baby draws its earliest, wordless lessons about connection, care, and love, and about how being ignored.
To become emotionally healthy we need another human to look at us with love, they need to be attuned to our feelings and see whether we are the focus of their gaze.
When the mother attunes to the infant with deep love, the infant learns that love is safe, forms a secure attachment, feels a sense of belonging and a sense of peace.
